A new road

Some people would attend the opening of a jam tin (as they say), so when we found out about the Community Open Day for the Western Highway - Anthonys Cutting Realignment, we though we would go. It was close to home, free & a nice day (so why not).

I think they under estimated the crowd. The freeway was bumper to bumper for a good 5kms before the parking exit & even then, we had to park on the new road, as the parking area was full.

We queued for a bus ride (whish were suppose to leave every 5mins, but with only 3 mini buses in service, it was over a 30mins wait). Next queue, was the queue for food. The local Lions Club had put on a free sausage sizzle, so you couldn't pass that up (especially when the hamburgers we so yummy).

At the other end of the road, was a jumping castle & train ride. We queued for a train ride, then by that time, it was all over.

I think the new road is well past the time it was needed (the current road has had numerous accidents over the years, including fatalities). Only time will tell if it stops congestion, but I do suspect that being an almost straight road (compared to the twists & turns of the current one), it will be a speedway for those idiot drivers who know no better.
