Trip to the ED
It all started last night, when A thought it would be smart to stick a pea up his nose. Now I've heard stories of this before, so know it's not the first time it's happened.
We totted off to our local urgent care place at around 7pm & after a quick pull with a pair of what looked like long nosed pliers, we were back on the way home.
Things were quiet until about 1am, when A vomited in his cot. I cleaned it up, but within 15mins he had done it again. So another change of bedding later & quiet time. But R wanted to get in on the act & vomited in his bed to.
I'd had it, so suggested we all climb in together. R wanted none of this, but wanted to play. A was tired after his game of hide the pea & wasn't the best. DH took R outside & slept with him on the lounge, while I slept with A.
5 or 10 mins later, A vomited again. It was only phlegm, but you could tell he wasn't well. Long story short, the vomiting continued throughout the night.
We took them both back to the urgent care place (by this time R get into the vomiting act) in the morning, as all was not well. The Dr checked R, but he was jumping around & acting normal, so we put his down to sympathetic vomiting, or attention seeking. A on the other hand was pale, starting to vomit brown smelly stuff & lethargic. So the Dr called our nearest ED (30mins away), spoke to the ED Paed & sent us down.
After waiting 30mins in the queue to see the triage nurse & being covered in vomit by a very unwell A, we were taken in. They checked his temp, BP & gave him something to stop the vomiting. By now he was almost stripped off, because they said he was a little warm, even though his temp was only 36.9.
They gave him an icy pole for dehydration & gave me a specimen cup, which I was expected to take off his nappy & catch a flying pee, for a urine sample. Icy pole all gone & lying without a nappy, there was still no sample to catch. The Dr came back & checked him again, offered him some water & jelly & said that if he was able to keep it down, that he would probably be able to go home.
Well as soon as he saw the jelly, he was back to the normal A we all know. I dressed him after he finished the jelly (still no sample) & we came home.
They don't what he had been vomiting (maybe a bowel obstruction, maybe remained of stomach, maybe it was an infection). We have been giving further instructions (I haven't read them as yet), to return, but since coming home, A slept for almost 2hrs, ate 2 chicken loaf sandwiches & has pretty much returned to normal.
It's only 9.30pm & they've been asleep since between 7.30-8pm. Poor little buggers must be so tired.
I know how they feel.
